what is UV-C

UV-C light refers to short waves light not visible to human eye with very energetic photons that are capable of breaking chemical bonds through ionization, hence the categorization as “Ionizing radiation”.

how does UV-C protects against viruses and pathogens

Despite all ranges of UV light have a certain level of efficacy in breaking chemical bonds, organic matter as RNA and DNA ones are more susceptible to the UV-C one.

Scientific data shows how RNA, DNA and bacteria are strongly susceptible to UV-C light in the range 250-280nm

A peer reviewed scientific publication on Nature studied the effects of UV-C light on Covid with the following findings:”. These results show how the SARS-CoV-2 is extremely sensitive to UV-C light and they are important to allow the proper design and development of efficient UV based disinfection
methods to contain SARS-CoV-2 infection

Moreover the study found out the following: “At a virus density comparable to that observed in SARS-CoV-2 infection, an UV-C dose of just 3.7 mJ/cm2 was sufficient to achieve a more than 3-log inactivation without any sign of viral replication

The testing of air sanitization on viruses as SARS-CoV-2 represent a challenge for the risks involved in the handling of those kind of pathogens 

A peer reviewed scientific publication on Nature determined the following:” A crossover of the wet and dry inactivation curves occurred at a cumulative dose of 7.13 mJ/cm2 (2 min treatment) for E. coli...”. This value represent almost the double required for the inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 (Covid19) and thus a strong indicator that what achieved by E.Coli can be, at the minimum, achieved on SARS-CoV-2 without the implications of handling viruses. For this reason, in order to have a scientific evidence of ray’s capabilities, the bacteria E.Coli has been used for the validation in University Laboratories

The Laboratory Tests demonstrate how ray, in stress-test conditions with a high amount of bacterial concentration, has an efficacy > 99% in a single passage as shown in the table below
